Francisco Pizarro

Spanish conquistador, born around 1478 in Trujillo, Extremadura. With fewer than two hundred men he captured the Sapa Inca Atahualpa at Cajamarca in 1532, ransomed him for a room of gold, and then executed him. Pizarro entered Cusco the following year and oversaw the founding of Lima in 1535. He was assassinated in Lima in 1541 by rival Spaniards.
