Galileo

A circular device with intricate gold and black detailing, labeled "Galileo," is set against a dark background, symbolizing the European Union's satellite navigation system.

The European Union's civilian satellite navigation system, operated by the European Space Agency from a constellation of around twenty-four medium-Earth-orbit satellites plus spares. Declared operational in 2016 and reaching full service in 2020, it delivers metre-level positioning. A 2018 analysis using two Galileo satellites accidentally launched into elliptical orbits produced the most precise test of the gravitational redshift to date, improving the limit by a factor of about five.
