Person

Georg Ernst Stahl

A German chemist and physician (1659–1734) who became a leading proponent of the phlogiston theory. Building on Becher's ideas, Stahl refined the concept, renaming 'terra pinguis' to 'phlogiston.' His formalisation of the theory provided a comprehensive explanation for combustion, calcination, and respiration, dominating chemical thought for over a century.
