Person

George Daniels

A man with gray hair and glasses wears a brown jacket over a light blue shirt and patterned tie, exuding a scholarly and professional demeanor.

An English watchmaker (1926–2011) who built every component of his watches by hand in a workshop on the Isle of Man, completing roughly twenty-seven timepieces over his career. Daniels devised the co-axial escapement, licensed the patent to Omega, and trained Roger Smith as his successor. His book Watchmaking remains the standard practical manual for makers attempting the full craft alone.
