Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon

Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon was an eighteenth-century French naturalist and mathematician, best known for his vast Histoire naturelle. His work ranged from zoology and geology to the mathematics of chance. In 1777 he published the needle problem that made random geometry a serious object of calculation.
