Great Western Railway

A vintage steam locomotive numbered 15 is stationed at a grand Victorian-era train station with arched windows and intricate ironwork, bathed in warm sunlight streaming through the glass roof.

British railway company chartered in 1835 to link London with Bristol. Under Brunel's direction it was built to a unique seven-foot broad gauge, ran some of the fastest trains of the nineteenth century, and was the last major broad-gauge holdout in Britain — the entire remaining network was converted to standard gauge over a single weekend in May 1892.
