Henrik Hybertsson

A portrait of Henrik Hybertsson, a Dutch-born master shipwright who was contracted by the Swedish crown in 1625 to build four warships, including the Vasa, which he fell ill during construction and died in spring 1627.

Dutch-born master shipwright contracted by the Swedish crown in 1625 to build four warships, the largest of which became the Vasa. Fell ill during construction and died in spring 1627, more than a year before the launch. The drawings he originally worked from have never been recovered, and the ship as completed reflects both Gustav's mid-build demands and decisions taken by Hybertsson's deputies after his death.
