A modern building with large glass windows and illuminated by neon purple lights displaying the letters "ICI" at night.

Imperial Chemical Industries, founded 1926 from a four-way merger of British chemical firms, was for much of the twentieth century the largest manufacturer in the British Empire. Its laboratories produced polyethylene, polyester fibre (Terylene), Perspex, and Dulux paints. The company was broken up and sold in stages during the 2000s; the Dutch firm AkzoNobel acquired the remnant in 2008.
