A NASA field centre run by Caltech in Pasadena, California. It originated as a rocket-research outfit in the late 1930s and became the agency's lead house for robotic deep-space missions: Mariner, Voyager, Galileo, Cassini, the Mars rovers, and the Deep Space Network of radio dishes that talks to them. JPL handled navigation and operations for Mars Climate Orbiter.
