LISA

A circular object with a central hub and radiating arms is illuminated against a dark background, symbolizing the planned LISA mission's spacecraft configuration.

The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna, a planned ESA-led space mission targeting launch in the mid-2030s. LISA will fly three spacecraft in a triangular formation 2.5 million kilometres on a side, trailing Earth's orbit around the Sun, using laser interferometry to detect gravitational waves at frequencies far below LIGO's range — the band where supermassive black-hole mergers and primordial signals are expected to live.
