Metre Convention

A grand interior space with ornate architecture features a large circular skylight at the center, allowing natural light to illuminate the area below.

An international treaty signed in Paris on 20 May 1875 by seventeen states, establishing the framework for a worldwide system of measurement. It created the BIPM, the General Conference on Weights and Measures, and the International Committee for Weights and Measures. Now signed by more than sixty member states. The treaty's anniversary, 20 May, is observed each year as World Metrology Day.
