Concept

Microgroove

A vinyl record with concentric grooves radiating outward from the center, symbolizing the microgroove concept introduced by Columbia Records in 1948.

The technical standard for long-playing vinyl records introduced by Columbia Records in 1948. By reducing the groove width to just a few thousandths of an inch and slowing the playback speed to thirty-three and a third revolutions per minute, the microgroove format allowed a single twelve-inch disc to hold over twenty minutes of audio per side.
