Concept

Mycorrhizal network

A mycorrhizal network is depicted as an intricate web of glowing fungal hyphae extending from a central point, symbolizing the complex connections between plant roots and fungi.

An underground web of fungal hyphae that physically connects the root systems of multiple plants, often across species. The fungi receive sugars from the plants and in return supply phosphorus, nitrogen, and water drawn from a much larger soil volume than roots alone can reach. Carbon, nitrogen, and chemical signals can move between connected plants through the network, though how much of this is cooperative versus incidental is disputed.
