New Horizons

A spacecraft is depicted against the backdrop of Jupiter, showcasing its journey through space.

NASA probe launched January 2006 on the fastest direct trajectory ever flown from Earth — fast enough that it crossed the Moon's orbit in nine hours. A single Jupiter flyby in 2007 added about four kilometres per second and shaved three years off the cruise. It reached Pluto in July 2015 and went on to fly past the Kuiper-belt object Arrokoth on New Year's Day 2019.
