Perkin-Elmer

A modern building with a glass facade and a prominent Perkin-Elmer sign above the entrance, illuminated by natural light from a curved skylight.

An American optics and instruments company, founded in 1937 in Glen Cove, New York. Its optical division in Danbury, Connecticut, built the Hubble primary mirror under a 1977 contract — a job that nearly bankrupted the firm and ended with the 1990 figuring scandal. The optical division was sold to Hughes Aircraft in 1989 and later folded into Goodrich and then Raytheon.
