Qumran Caves

A series of twelve natural and artificial caves located near the archaeological site of Khirbet Qumran in the Judaean Desert. The caves served as the primary repository for the Dead Sea Scrolls, offering a dry, stable microclimate that prevented the decay of organic parchment and papyrus. While some caves were used for temporary habitation, others were specifically utilised as storage for worn-out sacred texts.
