Concept

Saccade

A close-up illustration of an eye with a futuristic, digital interface design in the iris, symbolizing the concept of saccade, a rapid eye movement.

A rapid ballistic movement of the eyes between fixation points, typically lasting twenty to two hundred milliseconds. The human visual system makes three to four saccades per second, and vision is largely suppressed during each one. The brief blindness of a saccade is one of the natural interruptions that allows change blindness to occur in everyday life without any external trick.
