Concept

Second Temple Judaism

The period in Jewish history spanning from the reconstruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 515 BCE to its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE. It was a time of intense theological development and sectarian division, giving rise to groups such as the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls dramatically expanded our understanding of this era’s religious pluralism.
