Space Shuttle Discovery

A Space Shuttle Discovery, with its distinctive white body and black nose, is shown in a dark setting, highlighting its sleek design and iconic features.

The third orbiter in NASA's Space Shuttle fleet, in service from 1984 to 2011. Discovery flew 39 missions, more than any other orbiter, and was the workhorse of the programme — it deployed the Hubble Space Telescope on STS-31 in April 1990 and returned the fleet to flight after both the Challenger and Columbia losses. It now sits on display at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center outside Washington.
