St Mary's Hospital

The grand interior of St Mary's Hospital features a spacious atrium with a high arched ceiling, ornate railings, and a central staircase leading to a warmly lit entrance.

A teaching hospital in Paddington, London, founded in 1845. Its inoculation department, where Fleming worked from 1906 until his death in 1955, occupied a cramped suite of rooms on the second floor of the Clarence Wing. The original lab is preserved as a small museum, with the bench where the contaminated plate sat still in place beside the north-facing window.
