Superior temporal sulcus

A detailed model of a human brain highlights the superior temporal sulcus, a prominent horizontal furrow that separates the superior and middle temporal gyri, showcasing its role in processing auditory and visual information.

A long furrow running horizontally along the side of the brain, separating the superior and middle temporal gyri. In humans it is the principal site where auditory and visual information about other people — voices, faces, mouth movements, biological motion — are fused into a single perceptual stream. Disrupting it briefly with magnetic stimulation suppresses the McGurk effect almost entirely.
