Tranquility Base

A lone astronaut stands on a rocky, barren landscape under a dramatic sunset sky, evoking the desolate beauty of Tranquility Base on the Moon's surface.

The landing site of Apollo 11 on the southwestern edge of the Mare Tranquillitatis, a basaltic lava plain on the near side of the Moon. The name was improvised by Neil Armstrong during descent and stuck. The site holds the lunar module's descent stage, three experiment packages, footprints, and a small plaque reading "We came in peace for all mankind."
