University College London, founded 1826 — the first English university to admit students regardless of religion. In the 2000s a UCL-led team headed by Tony Freeth used micro-focus X-ray computed tomography to reveal every surviving gear and inscription on the Antikythera Mechanism. Their 2006 paper in Nature and 2021 reconstruction in Scientific Reports are the modern consensus model of how the device worked.
