Institution

University of Surrey

A modern brick building with large glass windows stands at dusk, surrounded by well-maintained green lawns and pathways, reflecting the architectural style of the University of Surrey.

Public research university in Guildford, south of London, chartered in 1966 out of the older Battersea College of Technology. In the mid-1970s its small psychology department was running infant-perception studies funded by the UK Medical Research Council. One of those studies, on lip-reading and speech development, produced the dubbed videotape that yielded the McGurk effect.
