University of Würzburg

A grand, historic building with ornate architecture and red-tiled roofs stands under a cloudy sky, illuminated by warm lights, suggesting an evening scene at the University of Würzburg.

A German research university founded in 1402, in the Bavarian city of Würzburg. Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays there in 1895. Today it hosts the lab of Rainer Hedrich, whose group has done the definitive electrophysiology of the Venus flytrap, showing in 2016 that the plant counts trigger-hair touches to scale its digestive response to the size of captured prey.
