Vallée de Joux

A winding road cuts through a serene valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains under a clear sky.

A narrow valley in the Jura mountains of western Switzerland, running north-east from the village of Le Brassus. Long winters and isolation pushed its farmers into watchmaking by the mid-eighteenth century. Today the valley holds the workshops of Audemars Piguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Patek Philippe's manufacture, and Breguet, and produces the bulk of the world's high-complication mechanical movements.
