James Webb Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope, a circular structure with gold-toned spokes and solar panels extending outward, is an infrared observatory launched in December 2021.

An infrared space observatory launched in December 2021 and operated jointly by NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency. Webb's 6.5-metre segmented mirror and tennis-court-sized sunshield were designed to fold for launch and unfurl in space. It orbits the Sun-Earth L2 point, 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, observing in the near and mid infrared.
