MEMS

A MEMS device with a central circular design resembling Earth, surrounded by intricate circuitry, set against a cloudy sky background.

Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) are miniaturised mechanical elements made using microfabrication techniques. In modern navigation, MEMS technology allows gyroscopes and accelerometers to be etched onto microscopic silicon chips. While less precise than aerospace-grade systems, their microscopic size and low cost make them ubiquitous in smartphones and drones.
