Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein, with his distinctive white hair and mustache, is depicted wearing a suit and bow tie, symbolizing his intellectual legacy and contributions to physics.

German-born theoretical physicist (1879–1955) whose 1915 general theory of relativity recast gravity as the curvature of spacetime. Einstein predicted gravitational waves in 1916, retracted the prediction in a 1936 paper he tried to publish in Physical Review, and accepted them again only after an anonymous referee caught the error. He died believing they would never be detected.
