This is black body radiation—one of physics' most beautiful relationships. Heat anything enough and it glows. At 500 degrees Celsius, a dull red. At 1000 degrees, bright orange. At 3000 degrees, yellow-white. At 6000 degrees—the temperature of the sun's surface—white. Heat it even more and it turns blue. The hotter the object, the shorter the wavelength of peak emission. Red has long wavelengths. Blue has short. This relationship is so precise, astronomers use star color to determine temperature across millions of light years. Betelgeuse glows red—it's cooler, around 3500 Kelvin. Rigel glows blue-white—scorching at 12,000 Kelvin. No thermometer needed. Just look at the color. This same physics governs why incandescent bulbs waste energy—most emission is infrared heat, not visible light. LED lights are efficient because they skip the heating, producing light directly. Your body glows too—in infrared. At 37 degrees, you emit wavelengths invisible to human eyes but clear as day to infrared cameras. Everything with temperature is broadcasting its heat through light. The color of fire, stars, and light bulbs all follow the same curve. Temperature writes itself in color across everything that exists.
