The National Institute of Standards and Technology, the United States metrology agency, headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Founded as the National Bureau of Standards in 1901. Home to the NIST-4 Kibble balance, whose measurements of the Planck constant in 2017 helped lock in the value adopted by the 2018 Versailles vote that redefined the kilogram.
