Voyager's Golden Record

#041 · status: draft

In 1977, we sent a message to aliens. It's still traveling, carrying the sounds of Earth, including a human heartbeat - from a woman in love.

In 1977, we sent a message to aliens. It's still traveling, carrying the sounds of Earth, including a human heartbeat - from a woman in love. Let me tell you about humanity's message in a bottle. NASA asked Carl Sagan to create a greeting that could outlast human civilization. He had one year and twelve inches of golden copper. The record contains one hundred sixteen images encoded as audio. Greetings in fifty-five languages. Music from Bach to Chuck Berry. And sounds of Earth - rain, thunder, a mother's kiss, a human heartbeat. That heartbeat belongs to Ann Druyan, who was recording brain waves for the project. During the session, she fell in love with Carl Sagan. They had just confessed their feelings two days before. Her heartbeat on that record is the sound of new love. It will exist for a billion years. The record includes instructions for playing it - written in the universal language of physics. Diagrams showing hydrogen atoms, binary code, and how to build a record player. Any civilization that finds it will hear Earth as it was in 1977. But here's the beautiful reality. Voyager one is now fifteen billion miles away - the farthest human-made object ever. It takes over twenty-two hours for its signal to reach us. It's still sending data, running on a power source weaker than a refrigerator light. In forty thousand years, it will drift near another star. And long after our civilization is forgotten, Ann Druyan's heartbeat will still be traveling through the cosmos. Our love letter to the universe.

1977 mein, humne aliens ko ek message bheja. Yeh abhi bhi travel kar raha hai, Earth ki sounds carry karte hue, including ek human heartbeat - ek pyaar mein padhi hui aurat ka. Main aapko humanity ke message in a bottle ke baare mein batata hoon. NASA ne Carl Sagan se ek greeting banane ko kaha jo human civilization se bhi zyada survive kare. Unke paas ek saal tha aur baarah inch golden copper. Record mein ek sau solah images hain audio mein encoded. Pachpan languages mein greetings. Bach se Chuck Berry tak music. Aur Earth ki sounds - baarish, thunder, maa ki kiss, human heartbeat. Woh heartbeat Ann Druyan ki hai, jo project ke liye brain waves record kar rahi thi. Session ke dauran, woh Carl Sagan se pyaar kar baithi. Unhone apni feelings do din pehle hi confess ki thi. Us record pe uski heartbeat naye pyaar ki sound hai. Yeh ek billion saal tak exist karega. Record mein instructions included hain ise play karne ke - physics ki universal language mein likhe hue. Diagrams jo hydrogen atoms dikhate hain, binary code, aur record player kaise banayein. Koi bhi civilization jo ise dhundhe, Earth ko 1977 jaisa sunegi. Lekin yeh beautiful reality hai. Voyager one ab pandrah billion miles door hai - sabse door human-made object ever. Iska signal hum tak pahunchne mein bais ghante se zyada lagte hain. Yeh abhi bhi data bhej raha hai, refrigerator light se bhi kamzor power source pe chal raha hai. Chaalis hazaar saal mein, yeh doosre star ke paas drift karega. Aur jab humari civilization bhool jayegi, Ann Druyan ki heartbeat abhi bhi cosmos mein travel kar rahi hogi. Universe ke naam humara love letter.

Production notes

The love story is the emotional core - don't rush it. The juxtaposition of intimate human love with cosmic scale is the magic. Consider using actual Golden Record audio.
