The Fourth State of Matter You Never Learned

#077 · status: draft

There's a fourth state of matter. 99% of the visible universe is made of it. You see it every day but probably don't know its name.

There's a fourth state of matter. 99% of the visible universe is made of it. You see it every day but probably don't know its name. Plasma. School taught you solid, liquid, gas. They left out the most abundant state in the universe. Here's what plasma is. Heat a gas enough and electrons start escaping from atoms. You're left with a soup of positive ions and free electrons. It conducts electricity. It responds to magnetic fields. It's not a gas anymore—it's plasma. The sun is plasma. Every star is plasma. Lightning is plasma. The inside of fluorescent lights? Plasma. Neon signs? Plasma. Your TV screen? Probably plasma or LED-excited plasma. Fire isn't quite plasma, but the hottest parts come close. Here's why plasma dominates the universe. Space is full of hydrogen. Stars compress and heat this hydrogen until it becomes plasma. Fusion reactions inside this plasma create the energy that powers every star. Our sun converts 600 million tons of hydrogen into helium every second—all in plasma state. We're trying to recreate this on Earth with fusion reactors. If we succeed, we'll have nearly unlimited clean energy. The fourth state of matter that your textbook barely mentioned might save civilization. Solid, liquid, gas—these are exceptions. Plasma is the rule.

Ek fourth state of matter hai. Visible universe ka 99% isse bana hai. Tum isse har din dekhte ho par shayad tumhe iska naam nahi pata. Plasma. School ne tumhe solid, liquid, gas padhaya. Unhone universe mein sabse abundant state chhod di. Yahan hai plasma kya hai. Gas ko itna heat karo ki electrons atoms se escape karne lagein. Tumhare paas positive ions aur free electrons ka soup bach jaata hai. Ye electricity conduct karta hai. Ye magnetic fields ko respond karta hai. Ye ab gas nahi hai—ye plasma hai. Sun plasma hai. Har star plasma hai. Lightning plasma hai. Fluorescent lights ke andar? Plasma. Neon signs? Plasma. Tumhari TV screen? Probably plasma ya LED-excited plasma. Fire bilkul plasma nahi hai, par hottest parts close aate hain. Yahan hai kyun plasma universe dominate karta hai. Space hydrogen se bhara hai. Stars is hydrogen ko compress aur heat karte hain jab tak wo plasma nahi ban jaata. Is plasma ke andar fusion reactions wo energy create karte hain jo har star ko power karti hai. Humara sun har second 600 million tons hydrogen ko helium mein convert karta hai—sab plasma state mein. Hum Earth par fusion reactors ke saath ye recreate karne ki koshish kar rahe hain. Agar hum succeed hue, humare paas nearly unlimited clean energy hogi. Wo fourth state of matter jo tumhari textbook ne barely mention ki wo civilization bacha sakti hai. Solid, liquid, gas—ye exceptions hain. Plasma rule hai.
